The Atlantic Workshop on Energy and Environmental Economics (AWEEE) is a biannual scientific meeting, born in 2004, that is organized by Fundación Barrié, Economics for Energy and the research group rede at the University of Vigo. The workshop has become an important outlet for the discussion and debate on state-of-the-art research on energy and environmental issues, with a limited number of participants coming from all around the world. The AWEEE combines keynote lectures on specific topics by prestigious academics, presentation of research by invited speakers and by other participants through an open call for papers, and a roundtable on current practices on energy and environmental policies.
The AWEEE takes place in the pleasant island of A Toxa, in the Northwestern Spanish area of Galicia. In its fifth edition, the workshop will include keynote lectures by Lawrence Goulder (Stanford), Ottmar Edenhofer (PIK) and Dallas Burtraw (RFF). Previous workshops benefitted by the participation of leading keynote speakers such as Sjak Smulders (Tilburg), Juan P. Montero (PUC), John Reilly (MIT), Charles Kolstad (UCSB), Eirik Amundsen (Bergen), William Nordhaus (Yale), Carlo Carraro (Venice), Scott Barrett (Columbia), Joseph Aldy (Harvard), Agnar Sandmo (NSE) and Gilbert Metcalf (Tufts). A selection of the papers presented in previous editions has been published in the main journals of the field, such as the Energy Journal or Energy Economics.
